카밀라 카베요, 인종차별적 발언 사과 "무식하고 무지했다" [전문]

[엑스포츠뉴스 김예나 기자] 카밀라 카베요가 과거 인종차별 발언에 대해 사과했다.

카밀라 카베요는 지난 18일(현지시간) 자신의 SNS를 통해 과거 인종차별 발언을 한 것에 대해 사과의 글을 올렸다.

내용에는 "어렸을 때 나는 영원히 후회하고 창피할 만한 말들을 했다. 무식하고 무지했다. 그 끔찍한 말들의 이면에 있는 역사와 진실된 의미를 알게 됐다. 내가 그런 말들을 했다는 것이 굉장히 당황스럽다. 앞으로 다시는 고의로 상처 주는 일은 하지 않을 거다. 진심으로 후회하고 있다"고 담겼다.

또 "하지만 과거로 돌아가서 내가 했던 말을 바꿀 수는 없다. 앞으로 잘 해나가는 것이 내가 할 수 있는 전부"라며 "난 이제 22살이고 계속해서 성장하고 배워나가고 있다. 그 역사와 고통이 이전과는 다른 방식으로 전해지는 것을 알고 있다. 그 실수들은 내가 어떤 사람이고 어떤 사람이었는지 표현해주지 않는다. 나는 그저 서있을 뿐이고, 사랑과 포용을 지지해왔다. 결코 미움이나 분열을 느껴본 적 없다. 사실은 내가 당황스러울 정도로 무지하고 알아채지 못했다는 거다. 다시 한 번 진심을 다해 사과한다"고 남겼다.

한편 쿠바 출신 가수 카밀라 카베요는 그룹 피프스 하모니 탈퇴 후 솔로 활동을 이어가고 있다. '하바나(Havana)'로 전세계적인 사랑을 받았다. 카밀라 카베요는 SNS 등 활동 중 인종차별적인 발언을 해 구설에 오른 바 있다.

When I was younger, I used language that I'm deeply ashamed of and will regret forever. I was undeucated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it. I apologized then and I aplogize again now. I would never intentionally hurt anyone and I regret it from the bottom of my hear. As much as I wish I could, I can't go back in time and change things I said in the past. But once you konw better, you do better and that's all I can do.

I'm 22 now. I'm an adult and I've grown and learned and am conscious and aware of the history and the pain it carries in a way I wasn't before. Those mistakes don't represent the person I am or a person I've ever been. I only stand and have ever stood for love and inclusivity, and my heart has never, even then, had any ounce of hate or divisiveness. The truth is I was embarrassingly ignorant and unaware. I use my platform to speak out about injustice and inequality and I'll continue doing that. I can't say enough how deeply sorry and ashamed I feel, and I apologize again from the bottom of my heart.
