[이승원의 ML 돋보기]박병호에 '1285만 불' 베팅, 가능성 큰 구단은?

넥센 히어로즈는 7일 한국야구위원회(KBO)를 통해 MLB 사무국으로부터 건네 받은 1285만달러 포스팅 금액에 합의했다. 이 미스터리 팀은 박병호와의 독점 계약권을 따내는 데 성공했다.

앞서 박병호 포스팅에 연관됐다고 알려진 팀들은 ▲콜로라도 로키스▲볼티모어 오리올스▲세인트루이스 카디널스▲뉴욕 양키스▲클리블랜드 인디언스▲보스턴 레드삭스▲시애틀 매리너스▲샌디에이고 파드리스▲필라델피아 필리스▲피츠버그 파이어리츠 등이 있다. 

박병호가 위 팀들의 유니폼을 입을 가능성은 얼마나 될까. 언급된 팀들의 현 상황을 간단히 분석했다.

이하 각 구단의 영입 가능성 및 설명이다.

콜로라도 로키스 : 5%

콜로라도는 저스틴 모노와의 9백만 달러 계약을 이어가지 않는 걸로 결정했다. 그러나 콜로라도는 지난해 선발과 불펜 등의 성적이 리그 최하위를 기록했다. 타선보단 마운드에 투자할 가능성이 더 높다.

볼티모어 오리올스 : 20%

볼티모어의 1루수 크리스 데이비스는 이미 겨울 시장서 자신의 몸값을 측정해 보고 싶어한다. '최고의 에이전트' 스캇 보라스와 함께 손을 잡아 더 든든하다. 또 볼티모어 단장 댄 듀켓은 한국 선수들 영입에 대해 긍정적이다. 1루수 자리가 빈 만큼 박병호를 머릿속에 두고 있을 가능성이 있다.

세인트루이스 카디널스 : 15%

소식통에 따르면 카디널스는 지난해 강정호 포스팅 제안에서 피츠버그에 이어 2위에 해당하는 금액을 제시했다고 알려졌다. 다시 말해 강정호를 지켜보며 전 동료 박병호를 놓쳤을 리 없다. 문제는 세인트루이스가 박병호에게도 지갑을 여느냐다. 현재 세인트루이스 내야에는 박병호가 들어갈 틈이 있다. 선발 1루수 맷 아담스는 지난 시즌 내내 부상으로 많은 경기를 소화하지 못했다.

뉴욕 양키스 : 1%

사실상 (박병호의 양키스행은) 일어나지 않는다. 마크 텍세이라와 그렉 버드를 로스터에 보유한 로스터에 박병호가 비집고 들어갈 틈은 없다. 따라서 양키스가 포스팅에 참가했는지도 의문이다. 또한 1루를 걱정하기 전에 선발진부터 손보는 것이 급선무다.

클리블랜드 인디언스 : 3%

현재 팀에는 카를로스 산타나가 로스터에 이름을 올리고 있다. 박병호를 지명타자로 쓸 생각이 없는 한 그가 클리블랜드로 가는 그림은 그려지지 않는다. 아직 입증되지 않은 지명타자를 위해 그렇게 많은 돈을 쓸 리 없다.

시애틀 매리너스 : 6%

매리너스는 현재 또 다른 거포가 필요한 상황이다. 지난 시즌 마크 트럼보를 기용했지만 예상만큼 재미를 보진 못했다. 박병호가 시애틀행 비행기를 탈 가능성은 존재하나, 내년에도 트럼보를 쓸 것으로 보인다.

마이애미 말린스 : 2%

저스틴 보어는 지난해 준수한 성적으로 주전 자리를 확보했다. 여기에 말린스는 마운드 수정이 더 급하다.

샌디에이고 파드리스 : 10%

저스틴 업튼이 FA 시장에 나서는 가운데, 팀은 중간 타순을 책임져 줄 박병호 같은 선수가 필요하다. 현재 1루는 욘더 알론소가 맡고 있지만 아직 자신의 잠재력을 증명하진 못했다. 알론소는 트레이드되거나 혹은 박병호와 플래툰으로 쓰일 수도 있다.

필라델피아 필리스 : 8%

현재 필라델피아 1루는 36세의 라이언 호워드가 책임지고 있다. 하지만 최근 몇년간 부상 등으로 평균 이하의 성적을 내고 있다.

피츠버그 파이어리츠 : 15%

강정호가 성공적인 메이저리그 첫해를 보냈고, 이 가운데 전 동료인 박병호를 팀으로 데려올 경우 팀 분위기를 끌어 올릴 수도 있다. 페드로 알바레즈가 1루에서 별다른 도움을 주지 못하고 있어 박병호가 와도 이상하지 않다. 유일한 문제는 돈이다. 지난해 강정호가 큰 성공을 거두면서 다른 많은 팀들이 박병호에게 큰돈을 베팅한 것으로 알려졌다. 스몰마켓인 피츠버그에겐 부담이다.

보스턴 레드삭스 : 3%

다음 시즌 헨리 라미레즈가 1루 수비를 볼 예정이다. 그러나 박병호가 올 경우 라미레즈를 지명타자로 돌리고 타격에 집중하도록 하는 방법이 있다. 이 경우 보스턴은 뜻밖에 박병호와 맞는 팀일 수도 있다.

남은 12%는 언급되지 않은 남은 19개 팀을 위해 남겨놓겠다.

Out of all the teams linked with Park Byung-Ho, which teams are realistic options for Park?
The Nexen Heroes of Korea have accepted a $12.85 million posting fee by a mystery team for the rights to negotiate a contract with first baseman Byung-Ho Park.

The Rockies, Orioles, Cardinals, Yankees, Indians, Red Sox, Mariners, Marlins, Padres, Phillies, and Pirates are all rumored to be the potential match for the Korean first baseman. So, let’s look and analyze each of the possible teams.

Colorado Rockies: 5% 

The Rockies declined the team option on Justin Morneau at $9 million, making a possible destination for Park. However, Colorado need to focus on starting rotation and bullpen as both were at the bottom of the league last year.

Baltimore Orioles: 20%

With their firstbaseman, Chris Davis, ready to test the free agent market with his super-agent, Scott Boras, the Orioles might have a replacement on their mind in Park Byung-Ho.  Executive Vice-President of Baseball Operations Dan Duquette, loves to scout players in Korea and is a possible match for Park also.

St. Louis Cardinals: 15% 

Reports say, the Cardinals were the runner-up in Jung-Ho Kang posting last year. So, we know they have scouted KBO before but will they spend money on Kang’s former teammate? They do have a possible spot for Park at first with Matt Adams, who was injured most of the season, as a starting first baseman currently. 

New York Yankees: 1%

No, this is not happening. With Mark Teixeira and Greg Bird on their roster, there is almost “a no chance” that they were involved with the posting. Plus, they need to fix their starting rotation first before worrying about first base.

Cleveland Indians: 3%

With Carlos Santana on their roster, it is difficult to imagine Park going to Cleveland unless they want to use Park as a DH. But, would they really spend a lot of money on a unproven DH?

Seattle Mariners: 6%

The Mariners need another big bat in their line-up as the Mark Trumbo experiment did not turn out to what they’ve hoped last year. I see a potential match with Seattle but I do think they will stick with a full-year of Mark Trumbo.

Miami Marlins: 2%

Justin Bour hit well enough to be back with the team as a regular first baseman last year. Plus, they need to address the pitching side of their team first.

San Diego Padres: 10%

With Justin Upton ready to test the free agent market, the Padres need a guy like Park, who will bat in the middle of the line-up. Their current first baseman, Yonder Alonso, has not lived up to his potential so far in his career and he might traded or seeking a platoon role with Park.

Philadelphia Phillies: 8%

Ryan Howard is 36 next year and he has been below average first baseman last few years dealing with injuries and simply, not performing. It might be time to change a look at first base.

Pittsburg Pirates: 15%

The success story of Kang Jung-Ho and bringing in his former teammate might fuel the team once again. With Pedro Alvarez being a liability at first, it makes sense to bring Park also. The only problem is, due to Kang’s success last season; teams were willing to spend more in Park’s posting which would make it difficult for a small market team like the Pirates.

Boston Red Sox: 3%

Hanley Ramirez is set to play first base at a regular basis next year. But if the team wants Park to their everyday first baseman and move Hanley to a DH role, Boston might be a potential match for Park.

The rest of 12% goes to the 19 other teams not mentioned here.
